Attività principali

Dive into history and take part in the restoration of the Maison des Chevaliers, a beautiful 16th-century building listed as a Historic Monument. This summer, join an international volunteer workcamp in Viviers, Ardèche, and help preserve this important heritage site.

In the mornings, under the Ardèche sun, you will learn different traditional building restoration techniques: stone cutting and placement, traditional masonry, repointing and finishing work. The work is supervised by professionals and experienced volunteers from the CICP. No previous experience is required, only motivation, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and share.

This project is part of a wider programme to restore and enhance the historic town centre, in partnership with the local municipality and heritage specialists. Your participation will help bring new life to this emblematic site and support local community life.

In the afternoons and at weekends, outside working hours, enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Ardèche and share a unique experience with volunteers from all over the world. Come and live an unforgettable human and cultural adventure !

Dove alloggerai

You will be accommodated at Clos Saint Roc, a former cloister dating back to the 13th century, classified as a historic monument. Located in the medieval quarter, near Viviers Cathedral, the accommodation is just a five-minute walk from the worksite.

The accommodation is in a solid building with several shared rooms. Sleeping arrangements will be on provided mattresses. However, if you have a thick and comfortable mattress, you are encouraged to bring it for added comfort. It is also essential to bring your own sleeping bag suited to summer temperatures.

A fully equipped kitchen is available for use, overlooking a charming park. Meals will be prepared collectively, with everyone taking turns cooking, cleaning, and organizing daily activities. Ingredients will be sourced locally, with an emphasis on seasonal and short supply chain products. We promote a vegetarian diet while respecting individual dietary needs and exploring local culinary traditions together.

There is no washing machine on site. However, a laundromat is available about a seven-minute walk away. The cost of laundry services is the responsibility of participants. The accommodation has Wi-Fi access.

This experience is designed to foster community living, shared responsibilities, and cultural exchange, while contributing to an important heritage project.

Scopri Viviers

Located in the heart of the Rhône Valley, Viviers is close to Montélimar, the Ardèche Gorges, and the gateway to Provence. This medieval village, perched on a rocky outcrop, overlooks the Rhône and offers a stunning setting of natural beauty and heritage. Viviers is an open-air museum, with its picturesque streets, historical remains, and magnificent cathedral dominating the valley.

You will have the opportunity to explore the region outside of work hours. Concordia facilitators will help organize leisure activities in collaboration with the group. Options include local hikes, visits to the market, and cultural excursions.

For swimming, the Viviers municipal pool may be an accessible option to cool off. Natural swimming sites such as Pignedoré Lake in Pierrelatte or the beaches of the Ardèche Gorges are also possible, though they require longer travel times and cannot be planned on a daily basis.

We encourage sustainable mobility: as there may not be a minibus available, travel will be arranged collectively using the available means (walking, carpooling, or public transport where feasible).

Requisiti

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Collaborazioni

Organizzatore

We are pleased to collaborate for the third consecutive year with CICP Viviers, an association dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the historical, monumental, and archaeological heritage of Viviers and its region.

This shared project is based on a common desire to revitalise the historic centre and raise awareness of its importance. Together, we encourage meetings between local residents, volunteers, and visitors, creating real intercultural and intergenerational exchange.

By joining this workcamp, you will contribute not only to the restoration of a remarkable monument, but also to the vitality of the village and the visibility of CICP’s work. You will be invited to discover local history through visits and exchanges with association members, enriching your experience beyond the worksite.
