Attività principali

The main goal of the workcamp is the technical and artistic production of the "Ball dels Salvatges" (The Dance of the Savages), a traditional performance deeply rooted in the history of Benabarre. Volunteers will work alongside local experts and youth to ensure the continuity of this unique heritage.

The work will be carried out from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 14:30, organized into the following technical workshops:

• Scenic Arts & Prop Building: Volunteers will design and build scenery, wooden structures, and stage elements. Following an eco-design approach, we will prioritize the use of recycled materials and natural elements from the surroundings (branches, stones, bark).

• Costume & Mask Making: This is one of the most creative tasks. Volunteers will learn traditional techniques to craft masks (using papier-mâché and latex) and costumes for the different characters (Savages, Knights, and Ladies).

• Performance & Traditional Percussion: Volunteers will participate in rehearsals for the dance choreographies and learn basic traditional rhythms using rustic percussion instruments. This task involves high interaction with the local community.

• The "Digital Savage Manual": As a modern legacy, volunteers will document the creative processes (filming tutorials and writing blog posts) to create a digital manual. This ensures that the technical knowledge is preserved and accessible for future generations.

Supervision: All tasks will be supervised by professional monitors and master craftsmen from the "Ball dels Salvatges" Association. No previous experience in these fields is required, only a positive attitude and a willingness to work as a team.

Dove alloggerai

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted at the Benabarre Youth Hostel, a modern facility inaugurated in June 2016. The hostel offers 58 places distributed across 8 rooms with bunk beds (with capacities for 4, 6, 8, and 12 people). A key feature is that every room is equipped with its own full en-suite bathroom (including showers and toilets).

The building is located in the heart of the town center and includes:

• A spacious dining hall.

• A multipurpose room for group activities and workshops.

• A small, fully equipped kitchenette (office style).

• Full accessibility: An elevator serves all floors.

• Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi coverage is available in common areas.

Food: A professional catering service will provide all meals during the stay. The diet is designed to be balanced and healthy, featuring:

• Breakfast, a hot lunch, and a cold dinner served daily in the hostel’s dining hall.

• On excursion days, a picnic lunch will be provided for the group.

• A mid-morning snack will also be offered to keep energy levels up during the technical work.

• Dietary Requirements: We are fully prepared to adapt menus for any specific needs or food choices, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergies. Please inform us of your requirements in your application.

Scopri Benabarre

Our leisure program is designed to foster group bonding, cultural exchange, and a deep connection with the stunning natural surroundings of the Aragonese Pre-Pyrenees. Activities include:

• Nature & Adventure: Volunteers will enjoy a hiking excursion to the breathtaking Mont-rebei Gorge and the Montfalcó wooden stairs. This is one of the most spectacular natural sites in Spain, featuring turquoise waters and vertical limestone cliffs.

• Gastronomy & Local Entrepreneurship: Benabarre is famous for its high-quality artisanal products. We will organize technical visits to the Brescó Chocolate Factory and the Benabarre Cheese Farm. Volunteers will learn about traditional production methods and the importance of sustainable business in rural areas (including food tasting!).

• Star Observation: Due to the low light pollution in the area, we will host an astronomy night to enjoy the Pyrenean "Starlight" sky, learning about constellations and local myths.

• Social & Community Life:

o Daily access to the municipal swimming pool to relax after work. o Intercultural evenings: A chance for volunteers to share their own cultures, music, and traditions with the group and the locals.

o Exploring the medieval heritage of Benabarre, including its 14th-century castle.

• Evening Workshops: Fun group dynamics, games, and open-air cinema sessions under the stars.

Requisiti

We believe that diversity enriches the community and the creative process of the "Ball dels Salvatges." We can provide the following adaptations:

• Physical Accessibility: The Benabarre Youth Hostel is a modern, fully accessible facility equipped with ramps, an elevator serving all floors, and en-suite bathrooms specifically adapted for people with reduced mobility. The workshops and rehearsal sites in the town square are also located in accessible areas.

• Adaptation of Tasks (Menu of Capacities): We offer a wide range of roles, allowing us to match tasks with each volunteer's abilities:

o Volunteers with physical disabilities: Can take a lead role in the Digital

Manual project (video editing, social media, blogging), as well as in the Costume and Makeup workshops, which are performed in seated, comfortable positions. o Volunteers with sensory disabilities: For those with hearing impairments, we emphasize visual arts and expression. For those with visual impairments, we can integrate them into the Traditional Percussion workshop, where learning is based on rhythm and touch.

o Volunteers with learning disabilities: We implement a "Peer Support" methodology, where a monitor or an experienced volunteer provides one-onone guidance, simplifying instructions and fostering autonomy.

• Social & Emotional Support: Our staff is trained in inclusive education and group management. We foster an environment of empathy and mutual respect to ensure the integration of volunteers from diverse backgrounds or those in situations of social vulnerability.
