The two-week international encounter project on the site of the former Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp has the motto ‘Making visible’ and is thus actively involved in the design of the site of today's memorial.
The work during the summer camp will consist of excavation work and the visualisation of a barrack foundation in the infirmary of the former prison camp. The work will take place outdoors, in a wooded area, and large and heavy stones will have to be cut. These stones are turned into flat Outline walls set. The work is part of a larger project: the remains of the foundations on the sites of former barracks are to be gradually made visible again so that visitors to the memorial site can recognise the camp structure, which barely exists any more. This year, work will continue on a foundation that has already been started.
The education and communication part of the project will focus on the history of the Nazi concentration camps and the use of concentration camp prisoners in the underground relocation of the armaments industry - using the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp as an example. Due to the location of the project, the focus will be on the so-called prisoner infirmary. The topic of medicine under National Socialism will therefore also be covered. This topic will be approached through tours, working with various sources, exchanging ideas with each other and joint digitally supported project work.
The ‘Dora labour camp’ was founded at the end of August 1943 as a satellite camp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. As part of the underground relocation of German armaments production in the last two years of the Second World War, concentration camp prisoners had to develop a tunnel system in the Kohnstein mountain near Nordhausen into an underground rocket factory. Series production of the rocket propagated by the Nazi state as ‘Retaliation Weapon 2’ began in January 1944. During the first few months, the prisoners had to live and work in the tunnels. It was not until spring 1944 that an above-ground barracks camp was built and the Dora satellite camp became the Mittelbau concentration camp in its own right. More than 60,000 people from almost every country in Europe, mainly from the Soviet Union, Poland and France, had to perform forced labour for the German armaments industry in the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp complex between 1943 and 1945. One in three of them died.

Around 40,000 people live in Nordhausen. The town has a large hospital, a theatre, a cinema, several museums, a university and a tram. Excursions into the surrounding area are possible, as bicycles are provided. Nordhausen is located south of the Harz Mountains. A tourist highlight is the Harz narrow-gauge railway (Harzer Schmalspurbahnen | Home | Home). This is a historic train with a steam locomotive that travels up the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, the Brocken, every day. Hikes or excursions into the countryside are very easy. There are open-air swimming pools and lakes on the outskirts of the city. Cities such as Leipzig, Göttingen and Weimar are easily accessible by train. Excursions to the Buchenwald Memorial and the Forced Labour Museum in Weimar are planned.

You will stay overnight and live in a separate house on the parish grounds. There are up to 16 beds in the house. There are three-bed rooms and two-bed rooms available. The house also has washrooms with showers, toilets, a washing machine and a large lounge. The accommodation is approx. 15 minutes by bike from the memorial.
WLAN is only available in the memorial centre. - A visit to the Buchenwald concentration camp is planned for the first weekend together with the project partner. You will learn more about the details of this visit from the group leaders.
- You should know how to ride a bicycle, as you will need to travel by bike from the accommodation to Mittelbau-Dora.
Interest in the history of National Socialism, good English language skills. Safe cycling in road traffic is a prerequisite! A desire for physically demanding work, weatherproof clothing, as the work also takes place outdoors. Mosquito repellent and sun protection are also advisable. Sturdy shoes that can withstand water or are suitable for hiking are a good idea.
The Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp memorial is an international place of remembrance and learning. In summer, the memorial is visited by many tourists from countries such as the Netherlands, France and Denmark. Relatives of former prisoners are also regular guests. The equipment in the seminar rooms is modern and iPads are provided for digital project work during the camp.

LOCATION: YMCA Fairthorne encourage all volunteers to take the chance to get out and explore the UK. YMCA Fairthorne is situated just outside of Southampton and less than two hours from London with a local train station. Generally, our volunteers will receive 2 days off in every 7 so its easy to access many parts of the UK. Situated in a 94-acre land in Botley, it truly is a stunning landscape where volunteers can enjoy the nature. It is not too far away from Southampton which is one of the biggest Cities on the South Coast where volunteers can explore and enjoy the following:
• Visit the Solent Sky Museum
• The theatre
• Southampton Football Club - Go to a game!
• Visit the Tudor houses
• Travel to Stonehenge

ACCOMMODATION & FOOD: Accommodation is in tents with bedding provided. Food is ‘Canteen style’ with a limited choice but with a vegetarian option. Three meals a day are provided, which includes a cooked breakfast and / or cereals, lunch and a cooked evening meal. Meals are at set times.
IMPORTANT: – Even in the British Summertime it can be VERY COLD AT NIGHT – please ensure you bring enough warm clothes. Wet weather clothing and footwear is also strongly recommended, as the site can get muddy and even the summer can bring a rainy day.

UK VISA COSTS: All volunteers will need to apply for a Temporary Work – Charity Worker, please be aware that this has replaced the Tier 5 (T5) Charity Worker VISA. The application fee for this VISA is £298 and you can stay for up to 12 months. To apply for the Charity Workers VISA volunteers will need a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) this will be provided by Concordia at the cost of £25.

This project contributes to the dissemination of the natural and cultural heritage with a community working approach to the territory. The project proposes different actions, in the technical and work aspect, focused on heritage cultural and in the natural-landscape heritage of the counties of "Pallars Jussà" and "Pallars Sobirà".
This work camp has relevant impact to the community, and each action helps to preserve the heritage of each municipality. Some members of the local brigades will work with the volunteers.
The work will be outdoors and to avoid the hours with high temperatures, volunteers will start early.
The different tasks will be carried out in collaboration with different entities:
Municipality of Talarn:
- Recovery of the dry-stone walls of the roads.
- Clearing and cleaning of roads.
Municipality of Baix Pallars (historical and mining heritage):
- Construction of several dry-stone walls of the salt complexes.
- Cleaning of the drain and around the salt mines.
Municipality of Gavet (historical heritage):
- Shrub all the vegetation and clean excavated areas.
- Help the archaeologists to remove stones and land.
Volunteers will work Monday to Friday, from 7:30h to 12.00h. They will have a break and in the afternoon, they have time to relax and enjoy cultural, social activities and visits.
No professional experience needed.

The municipality of Talarn is located on the right bank of the Noguera Pallaresa and surrounds the town of Tremp. Mainly flat around the water of the Sant Antoni reservoir, this is an ideal spot for the
practice of water sports.
Several activities will be:
- Visit to Epicenter in Tremp. This visitor center of the Pallars Jussà region is the main tourist information in the area and a space that shows the values of the local cultural and natural heritage. An opportunity to live an attractive cultural experience, discover the charms of the region and feel motivated to find out about the landscapes, the historic heritage, the resources, the products, and

- Day trip to Vall Fosca. By private bus participants will reach in la Vall Fosca Cable car. From Teleferic 2.200, people can start a wide range of treks to the 32 lakes that make up this spectacular site. The volunteers are going to stay in one youth hostel called Alberg de Talarn: http://www.albergdetalarn.com/wp/
Participants will sleep in one room all together, where there are 12 bunk beds with shelves to store personal staff. During the summer, the room gets very hot and volunteers must be prepared for really high temperatures.
The toilets and showers are indoor (no gender separation), with hot water and private showers.
The food is prepared by a catering company, and there is one kitchen on the 3rd floor where the participants will prepare for themselves the breakfast. Snacks will be provided during working breaks. Please, if someone is vegetarian or have some allergies, it is important to notify on the application form.
There is Wi-Fi and electricity and no washing machines; the volunteers can wash their clothes by hand.

The tasks require the use of certain work tools. Depending on the type of disability, they could participate but unfortunately, this work camp is not accessible for volunteers with high reduce mobility or wheelchairs.

Highlights: Spend your summer with young people from all over the world, make new international friends, experience Frankfurt by day and night and take a trip to Cologne, improve your English skills and simply have lots of fun
Children can experience a lot on the one-hectare site of the ?Wilde Wiese? active playground in Dietzenbach. The site invites them to build, play, run around, dig, explore and plant. The focus is on free play, but the carers also offer the children activities. In the first week, you will be active with your hands. Together with your instructors Paul and Florian, you will build a wooden platform to be used as a theatre stage and to erect a yurt. The programme also includes upcycling projects such as building seating from pallets or coming up with your own creative ideas and gardening. In the 2nd week you will help with the open children's holiday programme. The children are between 6-12 years old and you can use the grounds and play together. There is an outdoor kitchen on the site where you can cook together.

Dietzenbach is very well connected to Frankfurt by S-Bahn. Frankfurt has a lot to offer, culture, going out, shopping, events. You can visit other cities. Dietzenbach has a very nice outdoor swimming pool and outdoor fitness park.The cities of Heidelberg, Mannheim or Mainz are ideal for day trips.

Two large rooms are available for you in the lovely Waldorf school. You have the huge school kitchen- you have to take care about that. We will set up the rooms as a dormitory for you with air beds/mattresses. You have the huge dining room and enough sanitary facilities.
You cook together. You will be provided with money for shopping. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any intolerances when registering.

Shintoku and grow animals and vegetables in an ecological, organic way.
At Shintoku farm in Hokkaido, they grow cows, pigs, vegetables with utilizing bacterium and produce various types of milk products as well as running the cafe (soft cream and cakes are so yummy!) which is a popular spot for the local people and tourists. Their cheese got the best prize in the World contest for the mountain cheese! The project has been revived this year since 2019.
*Outcome of this project: So many vols. have joined this community and greatly contributed both physically and mentally. This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with HIF=Hokkaido International Foundation (since 2022 here). HIF was founded in 1984 and has developed various types of projects such as 1) Children's cafeteria to support economically disadvantaged children, 2) Events and seminars to promote SDGs and international cooperation, 3) Citizen farm, etc. in addition to 4) the international exchange programs such as homestay. Thus, the director has hosted the international workcamps from 2004 to 2019 in Onuma to protect the lake and to activate the local community. Many of the foreigners living in Japan are having various types of difficulties (isolation, poor access to the information and service, etc.). We believe, the inclusive society makes not only them, but also everybody happier! And the agriculture in Japan is facing to the serious crisis of the lack of working power (average age of the farmers is 68!).
*Outcome of this project: 3 vols. joined the 6 months workcamp in 2022 that has greatly supported the family immigrated from Afghanistan.

Located next to the city of Otaru, Yoichi is a place where one can fully enjoy Hokkaido tourism, from history and nature tourism to fruit fields and fresh seafood. There is the famous Nikka Whiskey factory. Other activities - Joining the local festivals, exchange with local people, short trip (hot springs, famous places)

Shared room in the main house or a container house (male and female are separated). Cooking with the local and members by turn, vegetarian food is possible. There is limited wifi.

Motivation letter is needed. Good level of speaking for the daily conversations of English or Japanese is needed. Skills of driving a car (valid in Japan), maintenance of the agricultural machines, experience of work in the tourism/ hotels are not needed, but useful! Having work experience is desirable. Strong physical health, open mind to actively exchange with others, good cooking skills, PC skills and loving team work/ collective life are also welcomed! Language - English. The local host can speak English fluently. Japanese is also welcomed!

This project is actively working for SDG2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGS15 (Life on Land), organized together with Hokkaido Eco-village Promotion Project (HEPP) since 2015. They started to promote "sustainability of our lifestyle and community", to create better environmental and social model for next generation in Hokkaido since 2012. They want to produce necessities that are needed for our daily life (foods, energy, etc.) by themselves as much as they can, and want to share them to the local area. They provide various chances to learn comprehensive skill and knowledge about "sustainable development" by organizing training programs and events for the local adults and kids. They also aim at connecting urban area and rural area, producers and consumers and to contribute local revitalization. They restarted to welcome the international volunteers from 2022 summer and 2 vols. from UK did nice job for one month!
*Outcome of this project: In 2024, 6 vols. from UK greatly contributed to their farming and other activities as well as the mental empowerment of the host!

The project takes place in the refugee centre in Emmen which is a location for families with children. The children you will be working with are between 4 and 12 years. These children participate in a school program, but during the months of July and August, there is the summer holiday break. The volunteers organise activities for and with the children. This type of work calls for creative people who can make up all sorts of games from scratch to play with the children: music, sports, arts, language sessions, creativity, etc. Therefore the content of this project is up to you and the other participants. The games are scheduled throughout the week.

There will be sufficient free time. Together with your camp leaders you will discuss the recreational program. Emmen is an attractive city with lots of activities in the summertime. You can visit places nearby and explore the surroundings. The area is declared a UNESCO-Geopark by the United Nations. Emmen is very well accessible by train and bus. Biggest attraction is the theme park Wildlands Adventure Zoo. Near the campingsite is also a earthwork from the Amercan artist Robert Smitson, Broken Circle and Spiral Hill(1971)

Volunteers will stay at a small campsite, almost a 30min bike ride.

The accommodation will be in a tent. You can either bring your own tent or use one of ours. In that case you will share a tent with one other volunteer. It's necessary to bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping math
There are cooking facilities and the group will cook for themselves. There is a big tent for cooking, eating, group activities or to hang out.

Due to the nature of the work a Criminal Record, Certificate of Conduct and a motivation letter are required.

The location of the project is the Refugee Centre Emmen. Emmen is a city of about 60.000 inhabitants in the province of Drenthe in the northern part of the Netherlands. This refugee centre (in Dutch: ‘AZC Emmen’) has a capacity for about 400 refugees. This particular place is a location for families with under age children whose application for asylum has been denied by the Dutch government. These families will in time return to their homeland.
Our partner is the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (in Dutch: COA). The COA provides accommodation during the asylum procedure and prepares asylum seekers for staying in the Netherlands, returning to their country of origin or transmigration. At the moment COA manages about 100 centres in the Netherlands. COA is an independent administrative body funded by the Dutch Ministry of Justice.
The COA works together with a partner named ‘De Vrolijkheid’: the National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness. The Happiness is a multicultural, not-for-profit network of artists, play writers, actors, musicians and volunteers who invest in children and teenagers in asylum-seeking centres. The Happiness organises creative activities on a regular basis in 30 asylum-seeking centres in the Netherlands. Please note that it is not allowed to take pictures and/or make videos in the refugee centre.
