Motivation letter is needed. Good level of speaking for the daily conversations of English or Japanese is needed. Skills of driving a car (valid in Japan), maintenance of the agricultural machines, experience of work in the tourism/ hotels are not needed, but useful! Having work experience is desirable. Strong physical health, open mind to actively exchange with others, good cooking skills, PC skills and loving team work/ collective life are also welcomed! Language - English. The local host can speak English fluently. Japanese is also welcomed!

This project is actively working for SDG2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGS15 (Life on Land), organized together with Hokkaido Eco-village Promotion Project (HEPP) since 2015. They started to promote "sustainability of our lifestyle and community", to create better environmental and social model for next generation in Hokkaido since 2012. They want to produce necessities that are needed for our daily life (foods, energy, etc.) by themselves as much as they can, and want to share them to the local area. They provide various chances to learn comprehensive skill and knowledge about "sustainable development" by organizing training programs and events for the local adults and kids. They also aim at connecting urban area and rural area, producers and consumers and to contribute local revitalization. They restarted to welcome the international volunteers from 2022 summer and 2 vols. from UK did nice job for one month!
*Outcome of this project: In 2024, 6 vols. from UK greatly contributed to their farming and other activities as well as the mental empowerment of the host!

Other activities - Join the local events, many opportunities to learn the local wisdom, etc. Sightseeing, short trip (hot springs, castle, famous places here).

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with Kyodo Gakusha (since 2000 here), a cooperative community where people with various backgrounds such as mentally disadvantaged, people who are tired of city life, who want to learn farming, who want to live in the nature, etc. They have 5 communities in Japan incl. Maki and Tateya and grow animals and vegetables in an ecological, organic way.
Maki is located in a very isolated area (not accessible for cars and we have to walk 4 km in the mountains!), so it once became an abandon village in 1970s and then, was revived by Kyodo Gakusha. Over 10 people incl. 2 families were living till several years ago, but less and less in these years (almost nobody in the winter), so vols. are needed even more!
*Outcome of this workcamp: In 2023, we had 4 short term workcamps and 1 LMTV project with 13 vols. who greatly contributed to their protecting the houses, farming and caring animals that was difficult to finish by the time they needed without volunteers! Alliksaare Farm s main direction is horse breeding. At the moment there are around 150 horses on the farm. The work can be diverse: it is to take care and maintain the pastures located by the sea - clearing around the pastures, building or removing fences, repairing fences, cleaning the stable. Another work is cleaning the coast nearby the farm from rubbish brought by storms. There can be some work for preparing food for horses for a winter time. However the major and the most important one is work with horses directly - taking care and training them. There are horses of any age but mostly young ones, so depending on your experience and willingness to learn more, it is possible to practice taking care of and training young horses. For example socializing and training foals, halter train yearlings and saddle and/or carriage train young horses. The work will be mainly outdoors. Working time is 6-7 hours a day. Work will be done under some supervision and guidance of the local host but mostly independently.

There is a kitchen with all necessary equipment for cooking. Ingredients for food will be provided, but you need to cook by yourselves. Special requirementsYou have to be open-minded and ready to adapt to the simple conditions of the common life in Estonian countryside. Be ready for independent work staying without permanent supervision. Please consider that the work is mainly farm work which can be hard at some time. Hiiumaa, according to the Nordic sagas, emerged from the Baltic Sea as a small islet more than 10 000 years ago. The island of Hiiumaa was first mentioned in historical documents as a deserted island called Dageida in 1228. The first inhabitants settled down at the end of the 13th century. Nowadays, Hiiumaa is the second biggest island of Estonia with an area of 965 sq. km and a population of around 9 000. It has many historical and nature sights, and there are kind people known for their hospitality and good sense of humor. The island is referred to as a remote area of Europe, and EstYES feels particularly proud developing international voluntary projects for over twenty years there. EstYES has been cooperating with eco-farms all over Estonia for solidarity and practical support to local people who work in the agricultural sector keeping traditional lifestyle and developing new eco-farming despite all difficulties. Alliksaare Farm on Hiiumaa Island is one of such projects. This is an organic farm promoting sustainable lifestyle, and this camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more about it and to help hard working people. The camp is based at Alviora, which offers a range of activities to connect people with nature, such as community gardens, wildlife workshops, school programs, and hikes. As part of the camp, volunteers help maintain the center through tasks like gardening, renovating the house and other projects such as removing old fences to protect wildlife, marking walking paths, and potentially do forestry work like trimming or planting trees.This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should be prepared to share environmental issues from their home countries and be ready to spend time outdoors. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

LOCATION: The accommodation is located an hour drive south-east from Reykjavik. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre and sits under Ingolfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingolfur, with a view of Eyjafjallajokull where the volcanic eruptions began in March and April 2010. The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found throughout the area, which is a popular attraction among both foreign and local visitors. The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away, with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafes and bars.

ACCOMMODATION: SEEDS volunteers stay in an old farm which has been transformed into an environmental education centre. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom, shower and a washing machine. Volunteers sleep in shared rooms, with up to 6 people per room. This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with the local group since 2019. This village has been welcoming "Ohenro (pilgrims)" who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. The pilgrims walk through this village before visiting "Kakurin-ji temple"; the 20th temple out of 88 temples of the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage. However, there are problems which should be solved such as aging and depopulation of the community these days, and locals haven't been able to find solutions for those problems. On the other hand, since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage locals are trying to find new ways for "omotenashi (hospitality)". Volunteers who have been working on the project have come up with ideas for the reuse of vacant and abandoned land. Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

The main task is harvesting various berries and vegetables such as rhubarb, currants, raspberries, Japanese quince, then helping juice making and products packaging. But there is also weed control and fertilization with mulch in plantations, mowing grass, cutting branches, removal of bushes and wood chipping, assistance in the construction of various small buildings, vegetable beds and other necessary structures on the site, painting as well. And there is ongoing work of planting seeds. Working hours are 5-7 hours a day for 5 days a week. The exact work depends on season and partly on weather conditions.

LocationThe farm is located in Kanepi municipality just 11 km from Otepaa and 47 km from Tartu. When coming from Tartu, choose a bus to Voru and get off at the Saverna stop. Buses stop there quite often, travel takes about 40 minutes. Also you can come through Otepaa. Knowing you arrival time and place hosts will pick you up from there. It is important to understand that it is calm and quiet place (there are no events in the village). But with nice weather, it is possible to watch animals like deer on the field, foxes in a strawberry bed and storks. While sitting by the fire at night, enjoy stars in the sky and listen to the nature sounds by animals such as badgers or raccoons.Leisure timeIt is possible to swim, make a fire, play volleyball, disc golf and other games or go for mushroom picking if you like it. There is a swimming lake in Valgjarv 4 km away. You can use various hiking trails. If interested you can visit nearby farms where you can get to know horses, sheep and other animals and see many other interesting things. The main berry crops are raspberries, various currants, gooseberries, Japanese quince, garlic and rhubarb. Everything is grown in an environmentally sustainable way using straw and hay. The farm promotes sustainable lifestyle, and this camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more and to help hard working people in country side.NB It is possible to stay for several shifts in a row.

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with the local group since 2019. This village has been welcoming "Ohenro (pilgrims)" who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. The pilgrims walk through this village before visiting "Kakurin-ji temple"; the 20th temple out of 88 temples of the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage. However, there are problems which should be solved such as aging and depopulation of the community these days, and locals haven't been able to find solutions for those problems. On the other hand, since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage locals are trying to find new ways for "omotenashi (hospitality)". Volunteers who have been working on the project have come up with ideas for the reuse of vacant and abandoned land. Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

World Village Festival is committed to continually improving its environmental efforts. There is only vegetarian food for sale. The festival strives to minimize waste, allowing only recyclable containers. The festival is committed to recycling all waste. The volunteers of the festival are carrying out several different tasks. The first three days the festival area is built up. This means carrying fences and tables, setting up tents, installing signs and banners, distributing the waste containers and helping with area decoration. During the festival days many volunteers are needed in the team which keeps the festival area tidy and in the recycling team which takes care that the different types of litter end in the right containers. After the festival, volunteers work with take-down work such as taking down banners, signs and decorations. After the festival volunteers will move to a seaside camp centre and have time to relax and discuss the study theme which is environmental responsibility and greenwashing.

The camp happens in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Suvilahti event area which is a former power plant area that has been taken over by several cultural actors for festivals and events. Volunteers will get to enjoy nature and the sea which are never far away in Helsinki.

The first week volunteers will stay in a hostel near the festival site in central Helsinki, after the festival the group will move to a lovely accommodation by the seaside.

Fingo organizes the yearly World Village Festival which is Finland s leading event for global action for the whole family, a free cultural festival, a food carnival and a trade fair for sustainable development. World Village raises global challenges and solutions, increases understanding and provides concrete ways to take action to create change. Expected number of visitors is 50 000 during the weekend 24.-25.5. There will be dozens of program concerts, discussions, workshops. In the festival area hundreds of different organisations and institutions and other actors present their work. This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is environmental responsibility and greenwashing.

VOLUNTEER WORK: Being part of our volunteer and stewarding team is an amazing opportunity to carry out some meaningful volunteering whilst also having the opportunity to enjoy all Elderflower Fields has to offer (for no cost!). You will be part of the amazing community which comes together to make the festival happen, many of whom come back year after year and will be on hand to show you the ropes. It is a hugely rewarding experience in which you will have an amazing time and make great friends.
Volunteers will be part of the field team – the eyes and ears of the festival. Volunteering in pairs, you will look after a specific area of the event and act as a contact point for the guests. Therefore, it is important that you have a good level of listening and speaking English! You may be answering questions, offering directions and helping people find their way around the site. After initial training and learning you will be able to identify if anything needs rectifying. You will be in contact with Event Control, reporting any incidents and feeding information to the public.
This is a fantastic volunteering opportunity for anyone interested in getting into event management with real on-the-ground responsibility at a large arts event. As you will arrive a few days before the festival begins there will be several tasks to get the site ‘festival ready’ and after the festival there will be jobs to revert the site back to its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Elderflower Fields is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – before the festival is running there will be lots of opportunities to explore and walk around the natural environment. During the festival you will have free time to enjoy and explore all the festival has to offer including music, food, activities and workshops, it really is amazing! On the last day, Concordia will help arrange transport to nearby Brighton, so that volunteers can visit the historic city and seafront to complete their experience.

ACCOMMODATION & FOOD: Volunteers will be camping at the site, in the ‘crew paddock’ area which is used by all festival crew. Concordia will provide simple tents. Volunteers will need to bring sleeping bags and roll mats. They will have access to hot showers/hot water for the duration of the volunteering project. The Crew HQ is a sheltered area where volunteers are able to charge devices, rest and relax when not volunteering. There is a microwave and hot water urn at the Crew HQ, volunteers can bring any snacks/additional food they wish to consume during the festival – please be aware there is no oven and minimal fridge space, so nonperishable foods are advisable.
Volunteers will be provided with three meals a day. Cereal, Tea and Coffee will be provided at the Crew HQ for breakfast. Volunteers will receive a £10 ‘voucher’ for both Lunch and Dinner which can be used at any of the available food vendors. Please take note that £10 is enough to get you a substantial meal, however there are some items which will cost more than £10, if you wish to pay the difference you can. On days where there is no festival, volunteers will be provided with a lunchtime sandwich and evening meal.

IMPORTANT: – Even in the British Summertime it can be VERY COLD AT NIGHT – please ensure you bring enough warm clothes. Wet weather clothing and footwear is also strongly recommended, as the site can get muddy and even the summer can bring a rainy day. Please note, to meet the sustainability requirements of the festival, long hall flights (further than Europe) should be combined with longer stays.

PROJECT: Elderflower Fields was born in 2012 out of a desire to create a new festival designed especially for families and children. The festival sold over a thousand tickets, and everyone loved it, the sun was shining, kids played, and people danced. The festival was so popular that it happened again in 2013 and then a new bigger venue in 2014. Pippingford Park is set in an Area of Outstanding natural beauty. The host intentionally keeps Elderflower Fields small – this is part of what makes it such a safe and special festival. Designed especially for those with young children as an opportunity for little festival first timers to dip their toes into a magical world of music, fun and nature. Families return year after year for a weekend filled with new experiences, exploration and celebration.
Elderflower Fields is an independent festival, created by So Sussex and put together by a small but hardworking team to create a magical experience for their audience. The rest of the festival is made up of friends, family and amazing volunteers – hopefully including you!
