The owner of this farm is Mr. Sugiura, who is the only a man taking care of 2 hectares of farmland abandoned by local people. The local people became too old to keep working on the farm. Mr. Sugiura cultivates, harvests crops, even makes fertilizer and processes the harvest into products. He is working not only for crops, but also for conserving the environment and the beautiful scenery of living fields in the countryside of Japan.

12304;About this Journey12305;Today, walking along the Yenping Historical Street, you can see 142 decorated historical houses in total. Most of them were built more than 90 years ago. A century ago, Yenping Street was the downtown with prosperity, but nowadays, as business gradually declined, the residents moved away from Xiluo and Yenping Street have become quieter. As a result, many houses have started to decay. Because of the Community Renaissance movement conducted by Luoyoung Foundation and local government, the street becomes prosperous again In the past 9 years, we have invited many cultural groups and artists to visit and stay in Xiluo, and host different performances. At the same time, we are committed to promoting the art of sculpture and reserve more than 40 pieces of public art for Xiluo. They are arranged at the head of the Grand Xiluo Bridge and the Sculpture Park. We also hosted 11 international work camps focusing on renovating heritage houses.However, there are many sculptures that need to be refurbished, painted, maintained, and guaranteed. We hope to promote the transformation of Xiluo Bridge into a sculpture art gallery to prevent the sculptures from being worn out.Now, we have also established community colleges to help residents better understand local culture and keep up with international standards.Welcome to make friends with students from community colleges, Artistic creation ,teach English in elementary school, high school, or Yunlin Community College in Xiluo, and experienced traditional Taiwanese culture. Volunteer can use bike for daily transportation and bus station, post office or 24h shop are just nearby. 2.A comfortable blanket and pillow will be provided so there is no need to bring a sleeping bag. 3.There will also be some pocket money , around NTUS dollar 6000, to support daily food. Volunteer can cook by themselves or enjoy the delicious local food in Xiluo restaurants. Internet is always available both in working place and accommodation. There is a washing machine and refrigerator in the accommodation. The weather changes a lot during the season, temperature could vary from 108451; to 328451;, so please bring suitable clothes.

This village has been welcoming "Ohenro (pilgrims)" who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. The pilgrims walk through this village before visiting "Kakurin-ji temple"; the 20th temple out of 88 temples of the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage. However, there are problems which should be solved such as aging and depopulation of the community these days, and locals haven't been able to find solutions for those problems. On the other hand, since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage locals are trying to find new ways for "omotenashi (hospitality)". Volunteers who have been working on the project have come up with ideas for the reuse of vacant and abandoned land. Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

Volunteers are the key person to make the students, teachers and Local
community speak using English in daily life.
They learn English in the class but only in reading and writing (grammarly) but
very lacking in speaking with Each other due to the culture barrier. When there are
international volunteers, the environment in the school and community force to
use English and they also couple exchange with volunteers.

There will be 2 schools which are Ban Krogluek School and Ban Maab Grad School.
The local host may schedule Monday-Wednesday work in one school and Thursday
and Friday work in another school.
You will meet different classes each day. So the activities you prepare can be used
similarly in both school and each class.

Intercultural and Language (ICL) – Nakhon Ratchasima, learning and sharing the
intercultural and language still are the main purpose. Volunteers will share and exchange
culture, language, and knowledge with the local community and students in the school.
English as the global language and intercultural learning are important for local Thai people
to understand and be for global citizens. English is also the gateway to open mind and
knowledge. The project was created by VSA Thailand and has been successful for eight
years. Former volunteers came to give the opportunity for children in schools and the local
community. Many local people improved their English skills through exchanging with
international volunteers, or at least they try to speak the English language more and dare
to face and work with the foreigner even though they cannot speak English. Moreover,
volunteers’ activities impacted the local community. They used to stay lively and trusty
with the foreigner. Local people have a chance to learn, accept, and adopt the ways of life
with the different cultures.
Ban Krogluek School is a primary school, there are about 10 teachers and 100 students from
kindergarten (2-6 years old), pratomsuksa 1-6 (7-12 years old). VSA has sent volunteers
to this School since 2015.
Ban Maab Grad School is a primary school, there are about 9 teachers, 1 janitor and 60
students from kindergarten (2-6 years old), pratomsuksa 1-6 (7-12 years old). VSA has

Based on the time of the year the volunteers will be working during the day or at night in the months of August and September from 20:00 to 08:00. Depending on the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night, and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:
1. Finding adult turtles and collecting their eggs.
2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.
3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.
4. Patrolling the beaches at night.
5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.
Please consider that the schedule is subject to change depending on the weather conditions and the condition of the sea turtles and it is possible to work with crocodiles in case there is no work with turtles, this can happen mostly in the months of January and February. The coordinator or the camp leader will be informing you regarding your work schedule.
