Spiagge e Fondali puliti a Sant'Egidio Alla Vibrata
Over water - over land: this is the name of Europe's first cross-border sculpture trail. You will take care of several sculptures on the German-Swiss sculpture trail and restore them to their original state. Weather and people have left their mark: The stone of the sculptures needs to be brushed to remove moss and lichen, and some sculptures are also sprayed with graffiti. For others, the subsurface needs to be renewed or maintained. The explanatory plates for the objects will also be replaced. In addition, you will completely renew the barbecue area, which is part of the 9km long trail. This area is intended to invite people to combine arts, nature and community.
Luogo
Hohentengen am Hochrhein lies in the south of Germany, in a kind of bubble surrounded on three sides by Switzerland. Only the Rhine separates the village from Switzerland. The village offers unspoilt nature, numerous sports and leisure facilities (beach volleyball, swimming pools, water sports ...).
Mountain ranges on the northern edge of the municipality, the Rhine Valley opens up to the south, the Rhine glistens in the plain and the Alps in Switzerland greet you on the horizon when visibility is good. With its 3,600 inhabitants, Hohentengen offers the entire infrastructure you could wish for: supermarkets, shops, pubs and much more.
Alloggio
You will be accommodated in the local multipurpose hall in the centre of the village which is otherwise used for sports and events. This offers plenty of space, a small kitchen and enough sanitary facilities for everyone. Camp beds are provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag and pillow (if required).
Your group of volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat and try more sustainable dishes.

In 2000, 12 internationally renowned artists realised ideas and thoughts on the theme of borders - dividing and uniting - in sculptures. Embedded in the marvellous landscape of the High Rhine, this path is a cultural symbol of friendship and connects the places on both sides of the river and the German-Swiss border. https://skulpturenweg.de/
Now, almost 25 years after its construction, the sculpture trail needs some maintenance. The citizens of Hohentengen would be delighted if this is done with the help of international volunteers completely in the spirit of the path's artistic message.

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with the local group since 2019. This village has been welcoming Ohenro (pilgrims) who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. The pilgrims walk through this village before visiting Kakurin-ji temple; the 20th temple out of 88 temples of the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage. However, there are problems which should be solved such as aging and depopulation of the community these days, and locals haven't been able to find solutions for those problems. On the other hand, since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage locals are trying to find new ways for omotenashi (hospitality). Volunteers who have been working on the project have come up with ideas for the reuse of vacant and abandoned land. Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

The idea of a cultural center was also supported by local people who enjoyed the community activities and wanted to promote and maintain local traditions.Luckily, preparations were made one year later, and in 1995 the first National Art Festival was launched in the county. Yunlin Cultural Bureau wanted to hold the festival in Xiluo, and in order to promote the local heritage, the festival was called Romance of Xiluo . Since at that time Louyoung Foundation was not known by Yunlin Cultural bureau, it officially applied to host the festival since this event will be a great opportunity to make Louyoung Foundation known to the public. Therefore, the initiative of inviting reporters and social media was taken in hope to promote the foundation and to raise enough funds to set it up.As a result of the previous actions and initiatives, the Louyoung Cultural and Educational Foundation was founded. The board of directors was established, being led by: Chairman Liao Deng Tang and CEO Lee Hong Yi, followed by Lai Mei Ru and Louise Ho as Executive Secretaries, Liao Sheng Long, Yang Yong Xiong and the volunteer community hoping they could make Xiluo a better place. It is now the most important cultural center in the city, which provides space for artists and writers to display their work, and where visitors can learn more about the old town s history and traditions. Organizzatore
This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with Kyodo Gakusha (since 1998 here), a cooperative community where people with various backgrounds such as mentally disadvantaged, people who are tired of city life, who want to learn farming, who want to live in the nature, etc. They have 5 communities in Japan incl. Shintoku and grow animals and vegetables in an ecological, organic way.
At Shintoku farm in Hokkaido, they grow cows, pigs, vegetables with utilizing bacterium and produce various types of milk products as well as running the cafe (soft cream and cakes are so yummy!) which is a popular spot for the local people and tourists. Their cheese got the best prize in the World contest for the mountain cheese! The project has been revived this year since 2019.
*Outcome of this workcamp: So many vols. have joined this community and greatly contributed both physically and mentally. There is even a case to marry one of the community members:) Please see the long term goal of this project as Local SDGs at https://www.slideshare.net/nice-workcamp/n0-68540773 (only Japanese for the moment, but you can at least enjoy the pictures!)
