However, volunteers need to join On Arrival and Evaluation Seminars in Yokohama, so firstly should arrive at Tokyo airport (NRT or HND) by 08:00 on the starting day and can leave Tokyo airport after 18:00 on the ending day.

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with Kyodo Gakusha (since 1998 here), a cooperative community where people with various backgrounds such as mentally disadvantaged, people who are tired of city life, who want to learn farming, who want to live in the nature, etc. They have 5 communities in Japan incl. Shintoku and grow animals and vegetables in an ecological, organic way.
At Shintoku farm in Hokkaido, they grow cows, pigs, vegetables with utilizing bacterium and produce various types of milk products as well as running the cafe (soft cream and cakes are so yummy!) which is a popular spot for the local people and tourists. Their cheese got the best prize in the World contest for the mountain cheese! The project has been revived this year since 2019.
*Outcome of this project: So many vols. have joined this community and greatly contributed both physically and mentally. They restarted to welcome the international volunteers from 2022 summer and 2 vols. from UK did nice job for one month!
*Outcome of this project: In 2024, 6 vols. from UK greatly contributed to their farming and other activities as well as the mental empowerment of the host!

The organization is located in an area with an atmosphere of Taisho era Romanticism. Winter season (Dec.-Mar.) is quite cold, so vols. need to bring warm cloths. This project will be the first to be co-hosted with the local group "Transition Village Gokayama" from 2025, and is actively working on SDG15 (protecting the richness of the land)."Houbikiso", a former lodging facility near the World Heritage site Suganuma Gassho-style Village, has been repurposed as a place to learn and practice "living in harmony with the Gokayama climate," "living using the wisdom of the past in a Gassho-style building," and "living in which people, animals, and plants coexist and circulate." The hosts are making small changes to the place and building the community. Together with volunteers from Japan and around the world, they hope to pass on the local cultural traditions to future generations. Currently, due to the aging population, there are few people who can take care of the thatched roofs with their history (which are grown on the slopes of the mountain) or grow traditional vegetables.

There, they will collaborate with professional artists to create artwork using marine debris, household waste, and natural materials which are collected by participants in the island. Geomun Island is a beautiful island located about 1 hour and 30 minutes by high-speed ferry from Yeosu, which is known for having one of the most picturesque harbors in South Korea. While it may seem like a remote island from the mainland, from the perspective of the sea, it holds a strategic position as a gateway to Korea. Because of this, Geomun Island has historical significance?most notably, it was occupied by British forces from 1885 to 1887.
Despite being separated from the mainland, the island has developed its own unique culture over time. Today, it is home to about 300 residents who enjoy a peaceful and happy life. Volunteers come to this island to contribute to the well-being of the community and help enhance the happiness of its residents even further.

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with Kyodo Gakusha since 2000, a cooperative community where people with various backgrounds such as mentally disadvantaged, people who are tired of city life, who want to learn farming, who want to live in the nature, etc. They have 5 communities in Japan incl. Maki and Tateya and grow animals and vegetables in ecological, organic way. Maki is located in a very isolated area (not accessible for cars and we have to walk 4 km in the mountains!), so it once became an abandon village in 1970s and then, was revived by Kyodo Gakusha. Over 10 people were living till several years ago, but less and less in these years (almost nobody in the winter), so vols. are needed even more! Tateya is located on the hilly (less than Maki, but still a bit isolated) area where 30-40 members live and mainly do rice farming as well as growing cows and chicken.
*Outcome of this workcamp: In 2024, we had 6 vols. from 6 countries who greatly contributed to the organic farming! Based on the time of the year the volunteers will be working during the day or at night in the months of August and September from 20:00 to 08:00. Depending on the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night, and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:
1. Finding adult turtles and collecting their eggs.
2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.
3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.
4. Patrolling the beaches at night.
5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.
Please consider that the schedule is subject to change depending on the weather conditions and the condition of the sea turtles and it is possible to work with crocodiles in case there is no work with turtles, this can happen mostly in the months of January and February. The coordinator or the camp leader will be informing you regarding your work schedule.

Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

The Märkische Schweiz Nature Park, 40 km east of Berlin, offers a unique natural and cultural landscape as well as an area for our project in and around the ‘Drei Eichen’ environmental education centre. By cooperating with the nature park administration, we will not only get to know the nature park and its surroundings, but also actively help to shape it.
We are offering this work camp because it is fun to have young people from all over the world with us and because we simply need a lot of hands for some of the work!
People and pets live on the grounds of the Drei Eichen environmental education centre - and there are almost always lots of guests: children, families, seminar groups.
For activities in between, Drei Eichen and its grounds offer many opportunities to learn about plants and animals, nature conservation and alternative ways of life and to actively participate. These include the tipi village and the wilderness education centre, the Zeidlerei station and a pottery workshop. Excursions or courses can be organised here by prior arrangement.
On some days you will ‘give something back to Drei Eichen’ by working on the farm - because sometimes we need many hands: e.g. for wood protection coating on the playground, repair work, building nesting boxes or replanting. We decide at short notice and depending on the weather.
At various locations in the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park, we will spend a few days helping to carry out various landscape conservation work in different natural areas. Autumn is the time when trees and shrubs are pruned, but also when planting takes place and bulbs are put in the ground. We are happy to help here! We also want to tackle invasive species.
There are many lakes and beautiful scenic areas that invite you to explore and relax after work! In autumn, there are also large migrations of cranes and geese, which rest and feed in large numbers on the nearby lakes. It would be possible to organise an excursion with an expert.
All work, whether in landscape conservation, crafts or creative design, takes place outdoors. We plan together on site, depending on the current weather conditions, on which days we do which work and which days we take off.

For activities in between, Drei Eichen with its terrain offers many opportunities to learn about plants and animals, nature conservation and alternative ways of life and to actively participate.
There are many great options for spending your free time. Among them are GPS tour(s) in the nature park, guided hikes on biodiversity, a visit to the bat museum, trips to surrounding lakes, going to the movies, visiting the pub "lokal." in Buckow, making a campfire; going to an artificial climbing forest or doing a canoe tour in the area. Those who long for more urban hustle and bustle on the weekend can also take a day trip to Berlin or even go to Poland, which is not that far away.

You will stay at the Drei Eichen environmental education centre, located in the middle of the forest, 4km from Buckow (www.dreichen.de). As a group, you will have a flat with kitchen, bathroom, toilet, lounge-kitchen, large balcony and 3 simple multi-bed rooms. You cook together. Money for shopping will be provided. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any intolerances when registering.

It helps if you have an interest in physical work and some strength. Please bring weatherproof and warm work clothes/long sleeves and pants, the work takes place outdoors. Shoes that can withstand water are good - outdoor boots or similar.

Based on the time of the year the volunteers will be working during the day or at night in the months of August and September from 20:00 to 08:00. Depending on the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night, and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:
1. Finding adult turtles and collecting their eggs.
2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.
3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.
4. Patrolling the beaches at night.
5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.
Please consider that the schedule is subject to change depending on the weather conditions and the condition of the sea turtles and it is possible to work with crocodiles in case there is no work with turtles, this can happen mostly in the months of January and February. The coordinator or the camp leader will be informing you regarding your work schedule.

The main achievement of the project is to protect the sea turtles with the help of volunteers who will be cooperating with a team of biologists. Up to now, the project has been quite successful and has reached extraordinary results.
